Record turnout for men's bonspiel

A record 36 teams took to the ice last weekend at the Gibsons Curling Club for the annual men's bonspiel. There were 29 teams from the Lower Mainland, two from Vancouver Island and five local rinks.

Bantam girls win a pair

The Elphinstone bantam girls' basketball team recorded the first two wins of the season by defeating Chatelech at home and Brooks in Powell River. In the home game Jan. 15, the Cougars jumped to a 12-0 lead en route to a 41-21 victory.

Rep Thunder remain in top spot

After a long winter break the U13 Thunder Girls Rep soccer team took to the field last weekend against Marpole, one of the top teams in their gold division. The teams played to a 1-1 tie keeping Thunder in top spot in the division.

Curling club to host senior men's playdowns

Some of the top senior men's curling teams in the province are in Gibsons this weekend for the Lower Mainland playdowns. There will be 15 out-of-town teams for the three-day event, slated for the club Jan. 11 to 13.
