The following letter was sent to Sechelt mayor and council and copied to Coast Reporter for publication.

A dictionary definition of a volunteer reads: a person who performs or offers to perform a service voluntarily.

Editor: Congratulations on an excellent and on point editorial (Coast Reporter, April 12) about the proposed "rapid change" to create an instant traffic nightmare in downtown Sechelt.

Editor: The proposed new wastewater treatment plant will operate for 50-plus years. In that time there will be a spill. There will be a mechanical breakdown, a power outage and/or a scheduled maintenance when a tank full of raw sewage must be dumped.

Editor: Jef Keighley's comments (A tall order, Coast Reporter letters, April 19) provides me with a perfect example of unhelpful Coastal negativity when it comes to trying to achieve anything in this community.

Editor: The opposition toa proposed new cell tower at Gibsons fire hall isa case where NIMBY is completely justified.

Editor: There is a group of about 60 people working against change in Sechelt. Their agenda is to shut down plans for the new sewer treatment plant, just as many of them worked to prevent Target Marine from expanding their business.

Editor: I attended every sewage meeting and most of the sewage commission meetings from the time the biosolids plant was first proposed.

Editor: We moved here eight years ago and had mice in the house, rats in the woodpile and squirrels in the garage.

Editor: Having moved to the Sunshine Coast 15 years ago and discovering how wonderful and abundant the wildlife is, my wife and I have kept track of the variety of birds we have seen from our residence.
