John Gleeson deserves a medal of courage for his recent viewpoint ("A strategy of war in our time," Coast Reporter, June 21).

He described the state of the world on the 50th anniversary of J.F. Kennedy's historic "Strategy of Peace in our Time" speech.

In just a few words, the Coast Reporter staff writer managed not only to honour the memory of the great U.S. president, but also to summarize the present state of the world in a way that cut through NATO's imperialist pro-war propaganda.

Gleeson appears to be very well-read indeed, and his analysis is truthful and irrefutable.

Gleeson will have his detractors. As Voltaire wrote about 400 years ago: "It is dangerous to be right when the government is wrong."

A recent reactionary letter to the editor begins with the telltale adhominemattack followed by several paragraphs of oft-repeated lies which have come to acquire an aura of truth.

So hats off to John Gleeson and to Coast Reporter for publishing his insightful comments.

Mark Twain once wrote: "A lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes."

With the vast majority of Canadian media now controlled by a few moguls, it is vital that independent voices put on their shoes and be heard.

I urge readers to check out a recent article about another courageous truth teller, General James Cartwright, the now retired vice-chair of the U.S. joint chiefs of staff, who has been indicted for espionage for telling the truth in an effort to stop WW3 (www.voltairenet.org/article179196.html).
