Logging trucks versus cyclists

My wife and I are frequent cyclists on the Sunshine Coast Highway between Halfmoon Bay and Sechelt. This year we have witnessed a large increase in the number of loaded logging trucks heading south.

Recently three loaded trucks passed us in the space of 30 minutes (which, incidentally, does more to elevate your heart rate than the actual exercise).

The bicycle lane is littered with pieces of bark, some large enough to throw you off your bike if you are not paying strict attention. The community does a lot to promote cycling on the Coast and indeed it is a big tourist draw, but the sport does not seem to be compatible with these trucks. It seems that moving the logs by water would be a much safer alternative.
