The BMO Sunshine Coast April Fool’s Run is this Sunday, April 7. Over 600 runners and walkers will be participating. Late registration happens Saturday 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at PaceSetter Athletic and Sunday 7:45 to 8:45 a.m.

After seven years of growth, the Gibsons Grind Gran Fondo has been cancelled due to safety concerns, with no firm plans for resurrection. “I work with a number of people who used to ride it,” said Larry Reid, one of the event’s founders.

On other days they are flimsy plastic beach buckets, but on Monday they were vital transportation vessels occupied by aquatic invertebrates ready to be ferried back to the wilds of Howe Sound.

The BMO Sunshine Coast April Fool’s Run is gearing up for its 42nd edition on Sunday, April 7. Registration is accepted online through Wednesday, April 3 and in person during package pickup on April 4, 6 and 7.

Ski and Snowboard Provincials took place from March 4 to 6 in Smithers. Evelyn Klassen from the Chatelech Ski and Snowboard Team earned a berth in the Snowboarding Girls category and participated in giant slalom and snowboard cross.

The Sunshine Coast Boxing Club’s Angela Cantarutti will box at this year’s Canadian Championships in the 119-pound Elite category.

On March 5, Lily Riggs competed at the 2019 National Powerlifting Championships in Ottawa. Riggs (pictured with her coach, Cole Thevenot of Blacksmith Fitness in Port Coquitlam) placed 7th overall in the junior 72 kg category.

On March 2, the Sunshine Coast U13 Storm hosted the South Burnaby U13 Metro Rangers for the Division 2 Cup Championship game at Hackett Park in Sechelt. As top seeded team in their group, the U13 Storm were given home field advantage.

It was a stunningly beautiful sunny weekend on March 16 and 17 in Surrey as the annual Mayors Cup filled every possible field, both turf and grass, with U7 to U17 boys and girls and a rumoured 300 teams taking part this year.

Genny Verge, winner of three gold medals at the Special Olympic World Games, is happy to be back. “It’s definitely nice to be back on Canadian soil,” said Verge from her home in Sechelt.
