The Hitmen hosted their fifth annual Seven-a-Side Hockey Tournament April 26 to 28 at the Sechelt Ice Arena. The Tournament was another huge success, with a total of 12 teams playing in two divisions for the prestigious trophy.
Throughout the weekend spectators flocked to the rink to watch a total of 28 fast-paced games, including two semi-finals and two finals on Sunday. On Saturday night the Hitmen organized a Goal in One, sponsored by Hemingway Electrical Contracting, where three lucky shooters got to take their shot at a $5,000 cash prize. None of the shots was unsuccessful.
This year the B Division champions were local Sunshine Coast Minor Hockey Association coaches, The Reg Dunlops – their first victory in five years of playing in the tournament.
The competitive division champions were the Admirals, comprising players from Surrey. They saw their name engraved on the trophy for the second time.
Winning teams enjoy a round of golf each, courtesy of the Blue Ocean Golf Club and the Sunshine Coast Golf and Country Club. Players also receive prizes throughout the weekend sponsored by Custom Carpet, Inline Electric, Coastal Weddings and Events, Trail Bay Source for Sports, Rental Quip, Hately Homes, and Smitty’s Oyster House. The weekend was the last weekend of ice on the Sunshine Coast, but hockey players and figure skaters can look forward to the reinstallation in early August.
