It's going to be quite a party - and the whole community is invited. Sunshine Coast Regional District staff are planning an all-day event to celebrate the first anniversary of the Gibsons and Area Community Centre on Saturday, April 4.

The U15 boys Balls Reunited rep soccer team captured the top prize at last weekend's Lynn Valley tournament in North Vancouver.

More than 200 players from ages nine to 14 took to the ice in Sechelt and Gibsons last weekend for the first major minor hockey tournament on the Coast in years.

Speed skaters from the local Pacific Blades have placed well at regional and provincial meets the past few weeks. On March 7, Willie Daigneault and Nicole Maseja competed at the B.C. short track championships in Kamloops.

The noise coming from Ted Dixon fields last Saturday was from approximately 300 U7 to U9 future soccer stars as they wound up their season with a year-end jamboree. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. it was perpetual motion -all enthusiasm and energy.

Watch some hockey and help out a good cause for a Gibsons resident. A hockey challenge will be held on Saturday, March 21, at the Gibsons and Area Community Centre.

Sunshine Coast Legacy finished off the season with a perfectly scripted ending last weekend, beating arch-rivals Lions Gate Capilanos 1-0 in the league cup final to claim the hardware.

From snowshoe first-timers to race regulars, the Off the Edge snowshoe race at Dakota Ridge drew in a competitive and fun-seeking crowd for five- and 10-kilometre races last Saturday.

Dakota Ridge is a winter recreation area managed by the Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD).

It may have taken them 30 seasons to win another national title, but it took them only one year to repeat that feat.
