Junior tennis alive and well

Madison Shoemaker and Jacques Joyal's tennis relationship has come full circle. Joyal was Madison's first coach when she started playing at age seven.

Elphi athletes finish season strong

The high school track and field season came to a close June 5 and 6 at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby, and athletes from Elphinstone Secondary School didn't disappoint. Kendra Pomfret finished third in the 800 metres in a time of 2:18.05.

Skate club lobbies for summer ice

The Sunshine Coast Skating Club is having one of its best years ever, with five figure skaters on the regional development team and arecord number of skaters competing at provincials in the competitive and StarSkate streams.

Volleyball Congratulations are in order for four athletes from Elphinstone Secondary School. Bella Roeleveld (Grade 8), Michelle Jakszuk (Grade 9), Katrina Nanson (Grade 10), and Farron MacDonald (Grade 10) all participated in the volleyball Team B.

SIB shines on Seabird Island

The recent run of success by athletes from the Sechelt Indian Band (SIB) continued at the Seabird Island tournament on the May 30 weekend. The U7 Sechelt Bumble Bees brought home first place after edging Seabird 2-0 in the final.

Squirt Crusherz win again

The squirt division Gibsons Crusherz played in a tournament in North Delta on May 23 and 24, bringing home another victory. Gibsons went 4-0 in the round robin, with great pitching by Hannah Smith, Carly Gillard and Leah Ewert.

Outriggers Spirit of Aloha Racing (SOAR) placed fourth in the mixed division six-man canoe race with a time of 1:27:50 in a 15 km outrigger race at Jericho Beach May 24. For half the crew, this was the first taste of racing in up to two metre waves.

These Black Sox a different breed of team

The 1919 Chicago White Sox were named the Black Sox because they "fixed" the World Series. Our Kenmac Midget AA team were named the Black Sox because coach Brian Scarr gathered some black socks and made the team wear them.

Race club celebrates 10th Anniversary

The Sunshine Coast Drag Racing Association is celebrating its 10th anniversary this weekend. Come to the Sechelt airport on Sunday and join the club as they kick off their 11th annual racing season.

SIB teams claim lots of hardware

The U7 Sechelt Bumble Bees and U10 Sechelt Warriors represented the Sechelt Indian Band (SIB) and the Sunshine Coast with pride, winning last weekend.
