The North Shore Twins are in Langley this weekend looking for an unprecedented third straight Premier League baseball championship.
Lead by Gibsons' Mitch Rainer and KP Hlatky, the Twins advanced to the final four championship tournament by defeating the Victoria Mariners last weekend on Vancouver Island in the final eight tournament. North Shore won the best of three series with the Mariners in three hard-fought contests.
The Twins won the opener 9-4 with Rainer getting the win. He pitched a complete game allowing four runs, two of them earned on seven hits with three strikeouts and no walks. Hlatky played right field and went two for two, scoring two runs.
Victoria won game two 6-4. Rainer played third base and walked once, scoring a run in two plate appearances. Hlatky went one for three, scoring one run.
Game three on Sunday, July 26, saw the Twins win 7-4. Rainer played shortstop, going one for four with one RBI, while Hlatky went two for four, scoring once.
In the other three series in the final eight tournament, North Delta defeated the Vancouver Canons, Langley Blaze defeated the Nanaimo Pirates, and Fraser Valley defeated White Rock.
The final four starts today (Friday) at McLeod Park in Langley with the Twins taking on North Delta and Langley playing Fraser Valley.
On Saturday, July 31, North Shore plays Langley and Fraser Valley. The top two teams from the two-day round robin meet Sunday, Aug. 1, for the championship.
