Halfmoon Bay athletes Larry and Teresa Nightingale both had very strong racesat last week's provincial cross country championships in Aldergrove.

This week in the women's league, the Gibsons Pigs gave the Xenichen Ya Yas their first loss. The game was played at Ted Dixon, and while conventional wisdom picked the home team Ya Yas, it was the Pigs who prevailed.

On Saturday the Peewee A Blues faced Vancouver. A hard-fought first period saw the score tied at 0-0. The Blues decided to watch the rest of the game, however, and ended up on the wrong end of a 6-0 score.

The Gibsons Pigs returned to winning form on Saturday with a home win over Capilano. Gibsons picked up a 15-12 win over Capilano in a friendly at Cougar Field.

Coast Progressive United tried to be the first team to sully the Gibsons Pigs winning record this week.

The U14 boys Celtics took another step in developing the character that will produce a winner as they travelled to Inter-River Park to play the Capilanos last weekend.

A pair of 5-2 wins in the past week and a half has the Roberts Creek Rangers in top spot in the men's A-division hockey league. The Rangers sport a 5-2 record, good for 10 points. The Inlet Raiders are nipping at the Rangers' heels though.
