Coast Progressive United tried to be the first team to sully the Gibsons Pigs winning record this week.

CPU was hopeful, up 1-0 at the half, but in the second, three penalty shots and a free kick all found their way to the back of the net, for a 4-1 Pigs win.

Brad Jennens sent in a great cross late in the first half, which was tapped in by Dave Rogers for CPU. Jennens and Pigs' Darryl Germaine both ran their boots off and kept the ball banging around hard and fast in the centre of the field. In the second half, Ken Campbell hit two penalty shots and a place kick for a hat trick. Defender Scott Weekes also scored on his penalty shot, after a CPU defender tried to temporarily play goal-tender without informing the ref. Pigs' defender, Drew Murphy, had a solid game on the back line, and Campbell had the ball at his foot more than CPU would have liked. Shane Vernon and Ted Chilsom had good games for CPU.

Second place rivals Pender and Gibsons United squared off at Brothers Park. Pender delivered the decisive 5-0 win.Sean Whalen was back with United and miraculously seems to cast a shadow even when it was raining, as Pender's Brent Sheppard followed him all over the field.

United still waits the return of their goaltender, out with a broken hand. United's defender Jessie 'Craig' Agnew was also injured but led inspired cheering from the sidelines. Pender got two goals from Robin Millar who hit a far corner and headed a ball over the keeper who was off his line.

Richard 'The Butcher' Massullo got a hat trick. The first he hit from the middle of the box, the second off a throw-in from Rod Kammerle, and the last was a trickling left foot that rolled across the goal line and stopped. The Chiefs/Selects contest was rescheduled for Thursday evening and Wolves/Halfmoon Bay was cancelled.

In ladies action, CAL's Crushers and Xenichen Ya Yas played their game under the lights on Friday at Ted Dixon, and everyone enjoyed themselves.

CAL's newbie goal-tender Linda Coady had the thankless task of facing Ya Yas' markswomen. Ya Yas' Christina Joe hit an indirect free kick, and veteran striker Mary Joseph ran in to dipsy doddle her way to the net. Joseph was ready to strike another ball inside the 18, when Joe stepped up and put it away for her.

For CAL's Sara 'Shooter' Schutz got both goals, one on an arching free kick and the other a quick toe punt inside the box.

Gibsons Pigs stepped up for the 1-0 win over Fusion at Shirley Macey. Ginny Blatter scored for Pigs on a rebound from defender Jen Fitchell. Blatter just missed another chance on the goal line and fellow forward Koree Rogers had some good runs to the Fusion net. Fusion got a typically good game from back-liner Teresa Sorensen.
