Editor: I recently spotted an adult female white-tailed deer swimming across the harbour from Madeira Park to the island. The deer waited for a break in boat traffic and then jumped in the water from a rocky outcrop by the government dock.

The Sunshine Coast Regional District's (SCRD's) draft recreation master plan took a hit on the chin this week. The source was a Gibsons councillor who also sits on the regional board as the alternate director for the Town.

Editor: We have a seasonal home in Gibsons. Last week we brought our bikes with us, looking forward to riding in the area, but there are very few roads with shoulders that are safe to ride on.

The following letter was sent to the Sunshine Coast Regional District and copied to Coast Reporter. We visited one of your open houses regarding the agricultural area plan and our compliments to you.

Editor: Many thanks for your editorial column regarding Sea Cavalcade (Coast Reporter, July 12). There were three choices that the organizing committee had - the third of keeping the fireworks on Saturday night was not financially viable.

Editor: I would like to respond to Linda VanderHeide's letter (Coast Reporter, July 12), noting that being in a democracy is a huge privilege and not one to be used to one's advantage.

Two recent initiatives, spearheaded by B.C. search and rescue crews, have us feeling pretty appreciative that these volunteers are manning our waters and keeping us safe.

Editor: Re: Prescription for a failed drug policy (Coast Reporter health column, July 12). Thanks to Dr. Paul Martiquet for reinforcing what Educators for Sensible Drug Policy have been saying for decades.

Editor: We experienced a very scary incident last weekend and very nearly lost our beloved nine-month old puppy. Lucy is a pug/chihuahua cross (a chug) who is, of course, pretty small.

Editor: Many times in the letters to the editor section I have read complaints about the shortcomings and lack of accessibility to medical services here in B.C. My experience has been totally the opposite.
