I'm proud to say that I've participated in the SCRD's Backroad Trash Bash twice, once as an individual and once as part of a team. Last year's Bash was huge, the weather and news coverage were great, and we removed tons of illegally dumped trash from our forest roads. This year the weather was horrible and the news coverage was much leaner, so you probably don't know how it went. So here it is.
Our team of six went "up the B&" to Guy's Gulch to clean up after someone who dumped what looked like the unsold remains of a garage sale. Before we got to it, someone else had set all the breakables on top of a stump and shot them to pieces. Nevertheless, we picked up all the smashed glass, pottery, metal, furniture, clothing, wet carpets and mattresses, and filled two trailers with it. We did this in the pouring rain with smiles on our faces.
This was one of dozens of illegal dump sites that we had our choice of cleaning up.
Thanks to the SCRD's Beth Brooks for doing a fantastic job of organizing the Trash Bash.
Oh yeah last Saturday we went on a family hike on the Suncoaster Trail. Sure enough, on the way down Middlepoint Road, we passed a small blue pickup heading up the hill. He had two mattresses in the back of his truck.
