What a great fire department

My wife and I have owned property in Selma Park for 15 years, and we are just starting to build a new house there. We took the opportunity to work with the Sechelt Fire Department to use the demolition of the old house as a fire training exercise. This happened last Sunday, Oct. 6. It was an opportunity for many of our wonderful volunteer firefighters to gain firsthand experience of putting out a fire in a real house, under the guidance of Chief Higgs and his team.

I would like to publicly thank the fire department for their professionalism, skill and enthusiasm. Chief Higgs was particularly solicitous of neighbours, and the team worked to minimize any impact of the fire. Fortunately it was a calm, clear day, and most of the smoke went straight up in the air.

I hope that this exercise honed skills which may one day help save someone else's home.

Thanks again to our fire department.
