Editor: Local businesses are mandated to comply with the B.C. Public Health Officer’s orders that are in place to keep us safe when interacting with others in the community.

Editor: On Dec. 16 various news sites released information that no charges will be approved against Vancouver Police Department officers in the brutal 2015 death of Myles Gray.

Editor: In the past few years, I have listened to the heartbreaking stories told by Myles Gray’s parents. They told me details of their experience that will haunt me forever.

Editor: Usually I go about my day and things don’t bother me, nobody hassles me and I think I live in a democracy.

Editor: The recent headline (“Coast COVID-19 cases outpacing neighbouring regions”) was disappointing but not surprising.

Editor: Well it’s sadly official – cases are rising and we have now had our first death on the Coast. My prayers, heart and thoughts go out to the family suffering the loss of their loved one and to all who are now sick with COVID.

Editor: Joy to the world. In these difficult times, it seems to be particularly apt to focus our attention on this phrase that is often sung during the holiday season.

Editor: I want to acknowledge the kindness and thoughtfulness of both the United States Postal Service and Canada Post for delivering this Christmas letter from my six-year-old granddaughter in Washington State to me in Roberts Creek.

Editor: All the experts tell us to “wash your hands.” But I have not heard a clear explanation as to, shall we call it, the chemistry behind washing your hands. I asked 20 random strangers why we should wash our hands frequently.
