A time to rejoice

Joy to the world. In these difficult times, it seems to be particularly apt to focus our attention on this phrase that is often sung during the holiday season.

It might be healthy for all of us to focus on things that bring us joy and to share these with others, perhaps by letters to the editor. Most often these are simple things that cause us to smile and pause from the tasks of the day.

Here are some that come to mind which bring about awe and wonder in my life on the Coast: a couple of young fawns awkwardly following their mom into the forest; sitting on my deck watching the stars come out at night and seeing the moon illuminating the garden; young children playing at the beach with found objects; seeing a father carrying a child on his shoulders; my giant puppy greeting me with tail a-wagging; pausing firewood cutting with my good friend to appreciate the wonder of the forest; unexpected phone calls from family and friends; and so many more supposedly little things that grace our lives.

I do hope that my “neighbours” on the Sunshine Coast will share their joyful experiences with us so that we can rejoice together at this time of year.
