Editor: Nine of my hiking friends and myself recently finished a seven-hour hike on the lower level of Mount Elphinstone. Almost on every path we went we saw that the trees had ribbons marking the border of a logging block.

Editor: A recent poll indicating public support for a new hydroelectric dam (i.e. site C dam) if it is done correctly raises many serious questions.

Editor: John Gleeson's rambling column in your Oct. 11 issue ranged from residential school diets to organic food to genetically modified plants. None of his comments were positive nor were they particularly informative.

Editor: I recently encountered a young black bear that hobbled past me about 30 feet away from where I was sitting in my back yard a month ago. He was heading for the laurel bushes and berries.

With the arrival of this colder weather I've been forced to do two things: start wearing socks and start thinking about winterizing our new home. This will be our first winter in the house we purchased in April.

Editor: I'm proud to say that I've participated in the SCRD's Backroad Trash Bash twice, once as an individual and once as part of a team.

Editor: Re: "Gravel mine opponents provide balance at Burnco open house" (Coast Reporter, Oct. 4). John Gleeson's article provided excellent coverage of the Burnco open house held Oct. 1.

Editor: Why did Sechelt council vote again to table a bylaw to prohibit the use of leg-hold, snare and Conibear traps in the District of Sechelt? Coun. Moore's Sept. 25 motion to meet with the B.C.

Editor: My wife and I have owned property in Selma Park for 15 years, and we are just starting to build a new house there.

Editor: Re: the article "Trap ban tabled for more discussion" (Coast Reporter, Sept. 27). This has been going on for more than two years! Coun.
