I recently encountered a young black bear that hobbled past me about 30 feet away from where I was sitting in my back yard a month ago. He was heading for the laurel bushes and berries.
I have seen him twice and it saddens me to see this beautiful creature hobbled by the damage done to his front right leg, which is missing the lower half - no doubt the result of a leg hold trap. It must have been a painful freighting experience for this animal and to what end?
