Editor: I am confused. The Gibsons Community Building Society (GCBS) states that it is a not-for-profit group. I noted a full-page colour ad in last week’s paper pleading for money for the Gibsons Public Market, a project of the GCBS.

Editor: The climate science is not settled? Yes, in a pedantic sense, Gordon Politeski is right; it’s not. But what he seems unaware of is that science and common sense are not incompatible.

Editor: There remain some Doubting Thomases as to whether the science is settled on human exacerbated climate change, just as some still doubt that smoking causes cancer, or whether Elvis really did leave the building.

Editor: In response to Mike Corrigan’s letter “Ferries CEO responds” (Dec. 11).

Editor: I’m becoming outraged by all the recent Hydro outages. I think others are, too. I’d bet BC Hydro is fed up with them as well, not to mention those heroes who head out to fix things at all hours, in all kinds of weather.

Editor: When a huge, derelict sailboat drifted onto Granthams Landing beach last week, my neighbour and I were very concerned.

Editor: Premier Clark, I am appalled at both the disrespect and the outright theft of the Peace River area you are enforcing on the inhabitants there. This is so un-Canadian.

Editor: With the Christmas shopping season upon us, it seemed a good time to consider how we shop. I was just looking at some reviews for a book from 2006 called The Wal-Mart Effect by Charles Fishman.

Editor: On Dec. 10, Vancouver CTV evening news ran a report in which irate gas station patrons decried the fact that according to Gas Buddy, Vancouver has the highest gas prices in Canada.
