When a huge, derelict sailboat drifted onto Granthams Landing beach last week, my neighbour and I were very concerned.
The boat beached within 40 feet of her cabin, the long and heavy bowsprit reaching out like a battering ram, only waiting for the next high tide and wind storm to plow into the seawall or the cabin.
We found out soon enough that the boat had no identification, and none of the powers that be were allowed to take any action in removing the boat out of harm’s way. After some time, word of mouth and Facebook brought the predicament to the ears of Ian Winn, a concerned citizen.
He realized the hazard and made a plan to get some local volunteers and a tugboat to help take the boat away. Huge thanks to Ian and to Dan Crosby and all the volunteers who contributed their time and equipment to accomplish this out of the goodness of their hearts!
