In response to Mike Corrigan’s letter “Ferries CEO responds” (Dec. 11).
Yes, free travel is available for school based outings and organized team sports events for participants under 18 years of age (thanks to Route 3 ferry travellers financing half the fare).
With regards to Pacific Coach Lines, they offer a student fare at a 45.55 per cent discount on adult fares, but only on the bus route component. BC Ferries fares apply for the sea voyage.
However, practically all other public transport facilities in B.C. offer student fares (up to 18 years of age) at substantial discounts on the adult fares.
Why should BCF compare itself with a Yankee outfit, rather than what is applicable in our province?
Suggestion: Offer B.C. Students up to 18 years a 50 per cent discount on adult fares on presentation of an official student card.
