The popular Sandcastle Competition in Davis Bay drew 38 entries this year, making it one of the biggest to date. Organized by the Sunshine Coast Lions Club, the July 14 event drew hundreds of spectators throughout the day.

Lori Pratt, chair of SCRD and director for Area B opened the 53rd annual Halfmoon Bay Country Fair. The Halfmoon Bay Community Association would like to thank everyone who came out to enjoy and support the Fair.

Include some indoor outings in your summer itinerary. The Harbour Gallery, in the heart of Madeira Park just up the stairs from the Millennium Park and Government Wharf, is open for the summer season, seven days a week, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

West Coast Railway Heritage Park

The Gibsons & District Library Foundation’s first fundraising initiative in almost a decade came to a tremendous conclusion, surpassing its $6,500 goal by close to $1,000 with the final tally coming in at $7,456.45.

Madeira Park Elementary School held its annual Sports Day on Friday, June 21, and for the second year in a row, students, staff and parent volunteers enjoyed a plant-based buffet with a large variety of healthy foods.

Lunch was finished and waiters cleared away dishes of pasta and garlic bread as Sid Quinn, shíshálh Nation’s resource director, stood to speak.

On June 22, the Sun Coast Amateur Radio Club Society held its annual field day at the Maryanne West Field behind the Frank West Hall, with an impressive setup run by two solar panels.

Expect Redrooffs Road to be busy Sunday – it’s Halfmoon Bay Fair weekend. HMB Country Fair starts Saturday, July 13 with the traditional Kids’ Fishing Derby on the wharf 10 to 11 a.m., sponsored by Halfmoon Bay Café and General Store.
