Editor: The Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) sustainable communities policy states that in addressing local and environmental issues, the directors recognize that "responsible local government is key to building sustainable communities.

Editor: With reference to "The health of Aboriginal people" (Coast Reporter, Feb. 26). A young man lost his fight for life a few weeks ago, long before his time. His dedication to his immediate family was loving.

Editor: I think we should be really clear about the reason behind the current push for bow-hunting of elk in West Sechelt.

Directors and staff at the Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) all have a few more grey hairs, but the stress, long meetings and exhaustive budget process have been worth it.

Editor: I decided to go to Van-couver recently to experience the "Olympic buzz." I met a friend in Kits, walked to Granville Island, took the sea bus over and started the day's trek.

Editor: A few years ago, permits were issued to subdivide two parcels of land on Highway 101 just out of Sechelt.

Editor: It was not long ago that the residents of the Sunshine Coast lobbied hard to have a conservation officer reinstated. But lately I am wondering if we have let a fox loose in our hen house.

Editor: My ferry trips to Vancouver are infrequent and usually for fun rather than a necessary commute. On those days it is my habit to sleep in, make a mad dash for the ferry and then treat myself to an overpriced but delicious breakfast special.

Editor: In response to Mr. Laninga's letter (Coast Reporter, Feb. 19), Capilano Highway Services performs winter maintenance on Highway 101 in conformance with Ministry of Transportation and Infra-structure specifications.

For the many Coast residents who've been zipping into town for some weekend Olympic thrills over the past three weeks, this is the weekend it all grinds to a halt. The world-class events have stopped.
