I had the privilege of spending a day with members of the Sechelt Indian Band (SIB) last Thursday learning about their history, beliefs and traditions, their unique self-government and their vision for a better future for their people.

Editor: Having read the response of MP John Westonto Bill C-38, I was appalled and shocked at his gall and chutzpah/cheek. In his support of Bill C-38 he wrote why he supporteda new Fisheries Act and Bill C-38. No word of the other 69 laws.

Editor: Local outrage at the essentially anti-democratic intent of Bill C-38 is rightly aimed at the Harper government. John Weston's lamentable response (Coast Reporter, June 15) serves to confirm that our concerns are well justified.

Editor: As the Conservatives popped up and down to vote in Parliament on Thursday, June 14, a more profound Coast meeting was taking place in Sechelt.

Editor: As a semi-regular commuter on the float planes that go from Sechelt to YVR and downtown, I am puzzled by Sechelt council's keenness to proceed with the airport expansion.

Editor: Thank you shíshálh First Nation for hosting the Business Network Forum on June 14. I went to the event as a school trustee, but could have attended the event as a business owner or teacher. I was one of many.

Editor: The letter from Wesley Jeffries and Rosalind Patrick re: "SD46 decision short-sighted" (Coast Reporter, June 8) brought to our attention the potential loss of a successful program due to monetary restraints and school board choices.

Editor: Reading about Mayor Henderson's proposed trip to Calgary to try to woo WestJet to come to the Sunshine Coast seems to me like a huge waste of our tax dollars, even if WestJet is paying for the airfare (Coast Reporter, June 15).

The provincial government is in the hot seat again this week. Social Development Minister Stephanie Cadieux confirmed on Tuesday that senior executives at Community Living B.C.
