While news about the novel coronavirus was spreading in January, it took three months for restrictions to hit in B.C., giving Sunshine Coast athletes a sliver of sports-as-normal in 2020.

Athletes with Sunshine Coast’s Chinook Swim Club will be benefiting from a $5,000 Olympic Canada Legacy Grant – allowing them to participate in events virtually.

Sunshine Coast Boxing Club (SCBC) coach Tariq Abdulrahman was elected recently to the board of Boxing BC as third vice president for a two-year term.

The Sunshine Coast Skating Club’s Skater of the Month for November is Brielle Avila. The club writes: “Brielle has been committed to coming out and helping on Tuesday Canskate.

A renowned figure skating judge, Susan Heffernan, was on the Coast Oct. 28, holding Autumn Assessments with the Sunshine Coast Skating Club’s STAR/competitive/adult skaters.

Whistler Blackcomb (WB) is reminding the public that opening day is still a few days away after reporting “a high volume” of skiers and riders on-mountain last weekend.

The Sunshine Coast Skating Club’s Skater of the Month for October is Alexa Kovski. Alexa moved up to StarSkate last year and would have competed in her first StarSkate competition in March.

About half as many riders participated, the legendary luncheon was cancelled but the hounds got their blessing, as did the Sunshine Coast in the 21st annual Fraser Valley Hunt Opening Meet last weekend.

The Chinook Swim Club held a time trial for 10 athletes on Saturday, Oct. 31. Due to COVID-19, all competitive swim programs are currently required to run time trials at their local pools instead of travelling to meets in other communities.
