Another sinkhole has formed at Sechelt’s Seawatch neighbourhood and is within throwing distance from a cluster of sinkholes that developed previously, including one in September.

Dakota Ridge opened on Saturday, Dec. 22 following a week-long delay caused by rain and warmer temperatures.

The Town of Gibsons is using an $11,500 Active Communities Grant to identify barriers to “active travel,” such as cycling or walking, for people going to and from Gibsons Elementary School and Elphinstone Secondary.

About 4,000 people are still without power on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands in the wake of the Dec. 20 storm, but B.C. Hydro expects the vast majority will have power by today.

BC Housing has told the District of Sechelt that it expects to begin work on a three-storey, 40-unit, supportive housing project on Jan. 3. The necessary zoning and official community plan amendments for the building at 5656 Hightide Ave.

Local governments on the Sunshine Coast are applying for grant money to create a Coast-wide child care plan.
