Dakota Ridge opened on Saturday, Dec. 22 following a week-long delay caused by rain and warmer temperatures.
More precipitation came this weekend in the form of rain at lower elevations, but at Dakota Ridge where the elevation tops out at 1,200 metres above sea level, snow was falling. As of Dec. 27, there is more than a metre of snowpack, up from 30 centimetres two weeks ago.
Several of the lower trails are open, including Hemlock, and are in the process of being groomed. Blueberry Trail remains closed.
The area is restricted to four-wheel drive vehicles with chains on the Forest Service Road leading to the recreation area. As of Dec. 27, snow begins seven kilometres up the road.
