The week of Sept. 19 to 25 saw an increase in new COVID-19 cases on the Sunshine Coast, with nine new cases reported.

During the same time period, Powell River reported only one new case, and the Howe Sound area had 37. In the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 23 reported cases were missing address information.

The new number for the Sunshine Coast shows new cases more than doubled from the two previous weeks, which both reported four new cases. Between Sept. 21 and 27, the case rate on the Coast for a 100,000 population was four.

On Sept. 29, 813 British Columbians were diagnosed as having COVID-19 in the past day.

Coasters ages 12 to 17 are catching up to the vaccination rate of adults, with reports showing 79 per cent of the youngest eligible cohort in the area received their first dose and 64 per cent had both doses.

In the 18 to 49 age category, 79 per cent received one dose of the vaccine and 68 per cent have received two.

Those older than 50 have a 90 per cent vaccination rate for the first shot and 87 per cent for the second.
