The Sunshine Coast reported four new cases between Sept. 12 and 18.

The weekly number of new reported cases of COVID-19 on the Sunshine Coast has stayed the same as the week before.

Between Sept. 12 and 18, there were four new cases of COVID-19 reported for the area. Four cases had also been reported for the previous week, from Sept. 5 to 11.

In the latest weekly count, Powell River reported one new case and Howe Sound reported 39. As well, 31 cases in the Vancouver Coastal Health region had missing address information.

On Sept. 22, there were 101 new cases and 877 active cases across Vancouver Coastal Health.

Vaccination rates continue to increase on the Sunshine Coast as of Sept. 21, with the exception of the 50-plus age category, which remains at 90 per cent for the first dose and 86 per cent receiving both vaccination shots.

For youth 12 to 17 years old, 77 per cent have received one dose of the vaccine, while 62 per cent have received both doses. Coasters aged 18 to 49 sit at 78 per cent and 67 per cent for the first and second doses, respectively.

Compared to provincial numbers released on Sept. 22, the Coast’s vaccination rate for those 12 and older is only slightly behind the provincial average of 87.1 per cent for the first dose and 79.7 per cent for the second. On the Coast, the vaccination rate for residents 12 and over is 86 per cent for the first shot and 79 per cent for the second.
