13 COVID-19 cases reported for Coast

New COVID-19 cases reported on the Sunshine Coast are down to 13 for the week of Aug. 29 to Sept. 4. The previous week saw 22 new cases reported.

For the first week of September, 34 news cases were reported in the Howe Sound area and six were reported in Powell River. Across the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 23 cases were reported that contained missing address information.

Meanwhile, vaccination rates continued to climb, except for the 50-plus age category where the rates for doses remained unchanged from 89 per cent for the first jab and 85 per cent for the second. For Coast residents 12 to 17 years old, 73 per cent had their first shot and 58 per cent had their second. In the 18 to 49 age category, 76 per cent had their first shot and 64 per cent had received their second.
