The youth company of the Gibsons Dance Centre depicted the moving effects of fractious relationships in a tour of Sunshine Coast schools on Feb. 22, nationally recognized as Anti-Bullying Day.

'I want the characters to have dignity,' said Kathryn Shaw, 'each of them in their own way. We laugh at them and in a way they have the ability to laugh at themselves too.' Shaw composed the one-act play following her 2020 retirement as artistic director of Langara University’s Studio 58 theatre training program. 

Also, Love Exhibition holds another reception. Sunshine Coast Writers and Editors Society establishes a book award scheme. And, pianist Nicolas Namoradze, first-prize winner of the 2018 Honens International Piano Competition, plays at the Raven's Cry.

Fifteen writers were matched with an equal number of artists at a recent event. Each partnership will collaborate to prepare works for presentation at this year’s Art and Words event, which runs Aug. 10 to 13 at the Public Market. 

At an appearance on Monday at Sechelt’s Run With Soup café, LaCasse also demonstrated Pied Piper-like powers. He started his midday set playing to diners numbered in the single digits. By the end of the two-hour concert, fans had filled every seat. LaCasse’s will perform next at the Gibsons Legion on Feb. 25, with admission payable by donation to the Legion or with a non-perishable contribution to the food bank.
