This month you can learn about tree identification, plan a more resilient garden for a changing climate, and make a harvest soup from fall produce, all at the Sunshine Coast Botanical Garden in Sechelt. This is a glorious season to be at the Garden.
On Sunday, Sept. 20 at 1:30 p.m., Douglas Justice, a UBC botany professor and one of the Garden’s directors, will give a Tree Walk and Talk, back by popular demand. Enjoy an informal session looking more closely at the trees in the Botanical Garden, see how to identify using your observation and senses. This is a pleasing drop-in session, with admission by donation.
If your garden was over-stressed this summer, register for a three-evening class, Planning your Resilient Garden in a Changing Climate. Experienced gardener-instructors Sheila Watkins and Paddy Wales will guide you in planning now, so you and your plants will be less stressed the next time drought and water restrictions come our way. Classes are Tuesday, Sept. 22 and 29 and Oct. 6 from 7 to 9 p.m. Space is limited, so register early.
Making delicious fall soups is a great way to enjoy your home-grown vegetables. On Thursday, Sept. 24 at 5 p.m., Christine Chandler will give a soup-making demonstration, including what to avoid, and participants will take home a container of soup. Register early for this too.
To register for either of these workshops, email [email protected] or phone 604-740-3969.
