The Sechelt Seed Sharing Library and the Sechelt Public Library is celebrating the produce from the garden by hosting the second “Beyond The Harvest” Fall Fair. It will be held on Sept. 6 at the Sechelt Public Library from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
We are inviting children and adults to exhibit vegetables, fruit and edible flowers to be judged. As well as this year we are celebrating the bean! We have handed out bean seeds to some elementary schools in June and we are looking forward to seeing what beans they grew. If you have grown beans with your parents, please bring them in too. There are prizes to win! Bring in all your exhibits from 11 a.m. to noon. They will be judged and prizes will be handed out at 1:15 p.m.
Our aim is to promote food security by empowering self-reliance in producing food throughout the year, especially over winter. We will have examples of how to preserve the summer harvest for the winter months to feed the whole family, what winter vegetables survive -12C in the garden, and how to grow microgreens and sprouts. We will be handing out two to three seedlings of winter vegetables per household again this year. We have started purple sprouting broccoli, endive frisee, blue curly kale and merveille des quatre saisons lettuce to be handed out for you to grow in your garden.
We will be accepting seed donations to the library as well as any seed that was grown as part of the Lettuce Seed Saving 2025 project. The Sunshine Coast Seed Saving Collective will be back with their seed saving equipment to show you how to clean it.
