The Sunshine Coast Dance Society in collaboration with Vancouver semi-professional dance company, The Source, returns to the Sunshine Coast in Shadows, tomorrow (Saturday) in Sechelt.

This year's show will also feature the Coast Academy of Dance's pre-professional dancers.

Two shows, at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., take place on May 8 at the Raven's Cry Theatre in Sechelt. Tickets for the 8 p.m. show are $15 adults, $10 students, and for the 2 p.m. show, $10 adults, $5 students.

Shadows is an original dance production that explores characters involved in a whodunit of dance. The story opens on a high-energy party filled with music, frivolity and dance, but when a dead body falls out of the closet and onto the dance floor, things get interesting.

The Source Dance Company is based out of Harbour Dance Centre in Vancouver. Now in its 10th year, The Source focuses on jazz, hip hop, lyrical, contemporary and street jazz. Dancers from all across the country audition each year to make up this dynamic company, but only a select few are chosen each season.

One of those few is aspiring local dancer Sammie Broomhall, who has been a member of the company for two years.

Broomhall trained for 13 years at the Coast Academy of Dance, completing her final year as a member of their pre-professional dance program. The pre-professional program, introduced in 2006, is a unique academic program that emphasizes strong technique and post-secondary dance career exploration.

Following her graduation from Chatelech Secondary School, Broom-hall moved to Vancouver to pursue her passion for dance. After a year in the intensive training program, she auditioned for The Source and has enjoyed two incredible seasons with the company - a strong and passionate group of dancers, a challenging dance repertoire and the opportunity to work with top, international choreographers.

Tickets for the show are available at: Peggy Sue's and Pretty Natty Duds, MELOmania and Hallmark Cards, or by calling Yvette at 604-885-3476.
