Students open new trail

Kinnikinnick Trail

Mountain bike operations (MBO) student Callum Cameron, District of Sechelt (DOS) parks foreman Perry Schmidt, MBO students Brendan Oslic, Colin Davies and Ryan Exler, and DOS acting mayor Alice Lutes officially opened the new Kinnikinnick Trail built by MBO program participants this year. The 409-metre trail took the students about 20 days to build.

During the opening on March 27, a contest was held to name the new route accessed via the end of Heritage Road. Those who came to witness the official opening put their ideas for a new trail name into a hat while they enjoyed complimentary hot dogs, face painting and mountain bike-themed draw prizes.

The MBO course runs at Capilano University Sunshine Coast Campus and attracts students from around the world who want to learn, among other things, how to build solid bike trails that last.

A name has yet to be chosen for the new trail, which complements other MBO-built trails in the area.
