Seedy Saturday in Roberts Creek

One Straw Society volunteers will be busy on Saturday in Roberts Creek for the Seedy Saturday event.

One Straw Society volunteers will be busy on Saturday in Roberts Creek for the Seedy Saturday event.

This is an annual Canada-wide event, to be held on the Sunshine Coast at the Creek hall - a great place to swap seeds, shop farmer booths, buy plants and seedlings, find treasures at the silent auction and gather information in time for the gardening season.

If you would like to bring your open-pollinated seeds, make sure to clearly mark the bag or container. Everyone is welcome to participate in the seed exchange, regardless if you have seeds to share or not. And while you're shopping, Gaiacraft Permaculture will host a children's zone and story time. Also bring your appetite for delicious soups, wraps, cake, coffee, cider and more provided by NuTrish's Foods.

For One Straw, this event is an important fundraiser, and especially important is the opportunity to come together as a community and help us get started on our gardens. Volunteers are needed both before and during this event, as well as donations of plant and silent auction items. Tables are still available. Please contact Yanira at 604-885-9096 or yanira@telus.net.

Also join in the fun at the Seedy Saturday Salon at the Gumboot Restaurant from 8 to 11 p.m. This will include a full evening of presentations by well-known speakers, as well as film clips by Jeff Lawton, Oliver Kellhammer and Bill Mollison. Suggested donation is $5.
