The Coast Recital Society (CRS) invites Sunshine Coast classical music students to submit applications for the annual CRS scholarships.

CRS scholarships are open to local music students, 25 years or younger, who are studying classical music. Application forms are available from the CRS office or downloaded as a PDF file from the CRS website at www.coastrecitalsociety.ca. The application must include: the applicant's music education and experience; a description of how the applicant intends to use the scholarship money; and an unedited audio recording of at least 10 minutes duration, made by the applicant within the past year, that includes at least two works from the Baroque Era, Classical Era, Romantic Era or Post Romantic - Contemporary.

The CRS has awarded scholarships to Sunshine Coast music students since 1998. Past CRS scholarship winners have used their awards to pay for such expenses as music lessons, sheet music, instruments and tuition for post-secondary music studies. The CRS scholarship program is an important component of the society's educational activities. In addition to scholarships, the society sponsors master classes and brings classical musicians to local elementary and secondary schools, through its Artists in the Community program. The society also makes discounted student tickets available for all concerts in the CRS subscription concert series.

Scholarship applications must be postmarked by Feb. 26, and can be mailed to the Coast Recital Society, PO Box 1010, Sechelt, BC, V0N 3A0, or brought to the Coast Recital Society office, located above the Royal Bank, at Suite 209, 5760 Teredo St. For more information, call 604-885-0991 or email coastrecital@dccnet.com.
