The Sunshine Coast Quilters’ Guild is pleased to announce their biennial quilt show will be held this year at the Gibsons and Area Community Centre May 1 to 3. This year’s show marks the 25th anniversary of the Guild’s formation. The Guild represents quilting groups from Pender Harbour to Langdale, with 115 quilters who are members.
As part of the 25th anniversary celebration, a number of show winning quilts from previous years will be on display. The Guild expects there will be around 300 quilts filling the arena floor.
In addition to the quilts, there are courses and lectures available and demonstrations of various techniques. The show is open from 10 a.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday on the first weekend of May. Lunch and snacks are available throughout the day. Merchants from the Coast and the Vancouver area will have booths.
“I am delighted that Anna Hergert has agreed to judge the entrants, give two workshops and address our Friday evening dinner,” said Lois Anderson, the show’s chair. “Anna is internationally recognized and was named Teacher of the Year by the Canadian Quilters Association in 2014. There are still a few spaces available in her classes.”
On Friday, Hergert will be teaching Kantha, an ancient method of embellishing fabric with stitches, and Twisting Nature, a design course, on Saturday. She will be presenting her lecture, Fanning the Fires of Creativity, at the Friday evening dinner. For more information, see www.scquiltersguild.com or contact Lois at [email protected]
