Pender Harbour-Egmont Highlights: Next weekend is Super Saturday in Harbour

April Tools returns in Pender Harbour on April 29.

Tomorrow, Saturday, April 22, PODS will host their Volunteer Appreciation Day, 2 to 4 p.m. at Tranquility Gardens at the Earthfair Store. Everyone is invited to celebrate the hardworking, dedicated volunteers and find out how you can get involved.  

Meagan & Amy perform this Sunday, 2 p.m. at the School of Music. Pianist Meagan Milatz and violinist Amy Hillis weave European classical masterworks and contemporary Canadian compositions into their performances. This Saskatchewan duo are not to be missed. Tickets available on the Pender Harbour Music Society website. 

Live music is back at The Clubhouse each Sunday, 2 to 4 p.m. This Sunday, Poppa Greg with Mike West and Tim Rannard will open the season in fine style. Cover $5. Visit the Pender Harbour Blues Society Facebook page for the coming shows and purchase your tickets to the PHBS Blues Fest June 2,3 and 4 performances. (Hesitating is not an option.) 

Monday, April 24, the Pender Harbour Garden Club welcomes guest speaker Veronica Alice Havilla, certified soil food web lab technician. Havill, a lifelong food, herb and flower gardener operates a mobile lab assisting backyard gardeners. Come learn about the soil food web, its micro-organism, organic matter, soil structure, nutrient cycling and benefits for your plants. 1 p.m. at the School of Music. Annual PHGC membership $15, drop-in $5. 

The Pender Harbour Women’s Connection is hosting a Community Update meeting April 25 with guests Len Lee, SCRD; Les Falk, Senior Housing: Campbell House at Lily Lake; Haida Bolton, Better at Home Programme and Michael Jackson, PODS.  Each speaker will have 15 minutes to explain salient points pertinent to their area of interest. Following a refreshment break there will be a short Q & A session. Learn the latest in what’s happening in our community.  Start 10 a.m.  Doors open 9:30 a.m.  $4 drop-in fee. 

Quiz night at the Legion, Wednesday April 26, 7 p.m. hosted by PHARA, Pender Harbour and Area Residents Association, will be an evening of fun and fierce competition. 50/50 Draw too! Come early for dinner or snacks as kitchen closes at 7 p.m. Get your team together, maximum six people. 

Thursday nights the Legion will be open from 4 p.m. Drop in darts start at 6:30 p.m. If you have donations for their Giant Garage Sale Saturday 29, call the Legion 604-883-2235 for drop-off times. 

The Rotary’s 50/50 Draw this month will benefit our high school so please purchase your lucky tickets. Everyone wins! Visit the PH Rotary’s Facebook page to purchase. 

Next weekend, April 29, is Super Saturday in the Harbour with April Tools Boat Building Challenge, a festival, at Millennium Park. The Annual Plant Sale extravaganza at the Hall. Giant Garage Sale at the Legion and the Harbour Gallery opens for the first time this year full of incredible new works by our local artists.  

The Plant Sale, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., is a fundraiser with proceeds going to energy efficient lighting throughout the Hall. Admission is by donation. Plants, eclectic garden and patio treasures, vendors with arts and crafts, silent auction and the kitchen will be open with lunch and refreshments. With May around the corner here are a couple of events you can book now. 

Tickets are on sale for the Pender Harbour Reading Centre’s “BOOKS ‘N’ BLOOMS” garden tour fundraiser on Saturday, May 13, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visit six unique, new gardens. Limited to 100 tickets. To order tickets, e-transfer $30 per ticket until April 30, and $35 per ticket after April 30 to  phrclibrary@gmail.com. Following purchase and to pickup tickets and map at Earthfair email your number of tickets, name, and phone number to the same address. 

Would you like to create a calmer, happier more connected you? Join Haida Bolton and “Come home to your Heart” at her blissful weekend retreat May 26 to 28.
