At the Pender Harbour Wildlife Society presentation by MARS Wildlife Rescue on Vancouver Island I came away with a wealth of information, resources, and inspiration to go forward with the (20 plus years) evolution of my property. Going forward means ecofriendly planting of native plants and natural landscaping. I am already on my way creating a biodiverse environment for plants and wildlife to succeed and thrive in our everchanging, challenging climate. Take a few minutes and visit their excellent website.

Now, I must admit not everything in my yard is native. I just harvested a bumper crop of beautiful 100 per cent organic Liberty apples from my 22-year-old tree. Success was thanks to the bees. I built bee houses with David from Sunshine Coast Wildlife Project and the bees came, enjoying the garden full of welcoming blooms and fresh shallow water as they did their magic. (Btw, I have the best apple crisp recipe).

This Saturday is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Orange Shirt Day, so put yours on and let us all remember, reflect and honour those impacted by the Canadian Indian Residential School System.
