Pender Harbour-Egmont Highlights: Fall Fair returns Sept. 24

Tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 16, is the 10th Annual Trash Bash. Come out and lend a hand cleaning up the community. Meet at Lions Park at 10 a.m. Volunteers receive a free lunch. 

Sunday, Sept. 17 is the grand opening for the Pender Harbour Aquatic Society and the SCRD 2023/2024 fall season and 40+ anniversary celebration serving the community at the PH Aquatic and Fitness Centre, noon to 4 p.m. Come celebrate and enjoy the BBQ! 

The Pender Harbour Wildlife Society is hosting Karen Cummins and Jan Smith on Tuesday, Sept. 19, with a presentation on Gardening with Native Plants. Karen Cummins and Jan Smith are members of the habitat stewardship team with the MARS Wildlife Rescue Centre in Merville, B.C. The presentation will be at the Pender Harbour High School in the food room. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. Presentation at 7 p.m. Refreshments and raffle to follow. All are welcome to attend. Harbourside Friendships, Thursday, Sept. 21 will be infused with youthful energy when the Grades 4 and 5 students come for a visit. The fun begins at 10:30 a.m. at the Hall. Lunch served at noon for $10. 

Fall Fair returns to downtown Madeira Park, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday Sept. 24. Included this year, traditional favs, such as the Harvest Exhibition, vendors, food, kids’ activities, and live music. 

Sunday, Sept. 24 the Pender Harbour Health Society will hold their AGM at the Legion at 1 p.m. Let’s hope for some good news. 

Vocalist and pianist, Diane Lines, returns to Pender Harbour School of Music with her Jazz/Blues/Swing trio for a lively concert that will make you want to dance in the aisles! Diane has been inducted into the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame. She is a favourite on the Coast and has played for the Pender Harbour Jazz and Blues Festivals. Tickets at the Pender Harbour Music Society website. Concert begins at 2 p.m. 

The Pender Harbour Garden Club will have well-known local master gardener and creator of Caron Gardens, Ron Knight, as their guest speaker Monday, Sept. 25, 1 p.m. at the School of Music. Annual membership is $15, drop in $5. Coffee, tea and snacks. 

The Pender Harbour Women’s Connection extends a welcoming invitation to their 23/24 season Tuesday, Sept. 26, with a “Brunch and Share” potluck gathering. Bring your favourite brunch appetizer to share. Reminisce about summer activities and what you are looking forward to this fall. Reconnect with friends and welcome new people to our community. Brunch potluck can be homemade or store-bought food that does not need to be heated. It will be enjoyed and appreciated by all. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. at the School of Music. The regular $4 drop-in fee will be waived. 

Mark your calendars, two very popular annual events are coming up at the Legion. Sept. 30 is the Thanksgiving Ham/Turkey Draw and Pie Auction. Five donated hams and five turkeys, plus early bird draws. As well, Oct. 21 is Ladies Night. Tickets will be available Oct. 1. This is always a sellout, so buy your tickets asap!
