Obituary: Cornelis Anthonius Pieter Aelbers

'Peter was independent, ambitious, fun, loving, generous, outspoken, and volatile. He always tried to help the less fortunate in both his appraisal business and in his personal life.'

July 21, 1937 - January 29, 2024

Peter was born in Bussum, Holland, the youngest of a Catholic family of seven. He is predeceased by five brothers and a sister.

In 1959, Peter left Holland and came as an immigrant to BC where Peter met his English wife Joan in 1960 at the Caribou Lodge, Clinton, BC. His first occupation was in the restaurant business in both the Okanagan and Vancouver. In 1970, he began his real estate and appraisal career, and by 1977 had his own business. In 1980, he also took on the job of postmaster at Granthams Landing, and for the next 22 years, served the community well even to the point of Christmas parties and Easter egg hunts.

Peter was independent, ambitious, fun, loving, generous, outspoken, and volatile. He always tried to help the less fortunate in both his appraisal business and in his personal life. He loved the forest and wild animals on our properties and worked hard to preserve the spectacular natural environment for future generations.

His dog, Cunha, had the most fortunate life of any pet. Peter was the charismatic uncle, great uncle, and great-great uncle of almost 60 relatives in both BC and Holland, travelling back to Europe often. He will be fondly missed on two continents.

A tribute to the ambulance, paramedics and nursing staff at Sechelt Hospital’s critical care; we are grateful that his final days were so peacefully managed.
