Help improve shorelines

Sunshine Coast Wildlife Project

Community members are warmly invited to come help the Sunshine Coast Wildlife Project improve shoreline habitats this weekend.

There will be two fun work parties, suitable for all ages. Teams of volunteers will plant native vegetation, remove invasive plants and do shoreline clean-ups on Saturday, March 28 on the oceanfront in Egmont and on Sunday, March 29 at Cooper’s Green Park in Halfmoon Bay. Come learn about ecological enhancement techniques, shoreline habitats and wildlife, while helping to improve our natural environment.

These sites are two of 10 different shoreline naturalization locations the Wildlife Project is enhancing thanks to generous funding from Pacific Salmon Foundation, Environment Canada, TD Friends of Environment Foundation, and the Sunshine Coast Community Foundation.

Shoreline ecosystems are among the most biologically productive, ecologically important and imperilled habitats on Earth. By enhancing shorelines, we can help improve habitat for diverse fish and wildlife species, prevent erosion, improve water quality, and maintain the overall health of both freshwater and marine ecosystems.
