Kick start those bold New Year's resolutions into action by participating in the Health and Wellness 2010 series at the Gibsons and District Public Library.

The series begins on Saturday, Jan. 23, with a presentation on emotional freedom techniques (EFT) by local EFT practitioner, Dana Williams (www.EFTshifts.com). Learn to be your own artist of change as Williams demonstrates the basic techniques of shifting old patterns of thought and behaviour.

On Saturday, Feb. 6, Suzanne Diamond will offer a workshop based on her book Nature's Best Heart Medicine. Join Diamond as she prepares simple recipes that incorporate foods and supplements rich in flavenoids into a daily diet to promote heart health.

For the seventh consecutive year, Liz Wood, physiotherapist and yoga instructor, will present her introductory yoga class. This perennially popular session will lead you through some basic yoga movements, incorporating the elements of stretching, breathing and balance for a gently invigorating workout. Wear comfortable clothing and bring a mat if you have one for this session on Saturday, Feb. 13.

Kick it up a notch on Feb. 20 when black belt instructor Dallas Grieve turns the library meeting room into a dojo and takes you through some fundamental moves of the ancient martial art of karate. Loose, comfortable clothing is recommended.

The series concludes on Feb. 27 with a belly fit for women class presented by Sunshine Coast Regional District instructor Soleila Elliott. This combination of belly dance, Bollywood and bhangra with elements of Pilates core and yoga stretch will leave you refreshed and rejuvenated.

Each of these sessions begins at 2 p.m. and all are free. The instructors all offer classes in the community, so if you particularly enjoy an activity, you can seek out further sessions locally. These classes fill up rapidly, so register early by calling the library at 604-886-2130 or email Patricia at pswadden@gibsons.bclibrary.ca.
