Halfmoon Happenings

Halfmoon Bay

The SCRD Manager of Parks Services, Carolyn Mortensen, will present the Coopers Green Park Management Plan Open House at Coopers Green Hall on Monday, Sept. 28 from 7 to 9 p.m. with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. There will be a short presentation at 7:30 p.m. with lots of opportunity for people to walk around and review the details from the plan and provide input.

Give your support to the HMB Volunteer Fire Department’s 10k Run Until It Burns fundraiser. They are looking forward to a great run this year with an emphasis on families and fun. The route goes from Halfmoon Bay Fire Department Hall #2 on Fawn Road to Hall #1. Registration is on Saturday, Sept. 26, at 8 a.m. Walkers start at 9 a.m., runners at 10.

Help the Food Bank and the Halfmoon Bay Apple Festival Oct. 17 and 18. Volunteers are needed to help process the wonderful apples that have been donated. Many hands make light work. Apples are still being accepted, as well as hardwood for the fire. Contact Katie at [email protected]

On Saturday, Oct. 10, at Coopers Green, volunteers are needed for applesauce making. Bring your paring knives, peelers, cutting boards, large stainless pots, and any other peeler-corer, food mill gizmos you have around. Guitars, ukuleles and fiddles are welcome. We’ll have the fire going and the big copper kettle ready. Time to meet your neighbours, and do some good work for a good cause.

Tickets are on sale at Halfmoon Bay General Store and Welcome Woods Market for the Applefest’s Boogie Night on Oct. 17. Tickets are $15 each and include snacks, a glass of beer, wine or cider and entertainment by Playback, a four-piece classic rock band that specializes in ‘60s and ‘70s tunes you can dance to.

Pickleball is back Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. at the Halfmoon Bay Community School gym on Northwood Road. Players and spectators are invited, and all skill levels are welcome. Equipment is provided. Drop-in fee is $3 per night or $20 for eight nights. This is a wonderful way to get some exercise and meet the neighbours. No experience is required.
