The Recreational Aircraft Association Chapter 580 is holding its annual Fly-Market at Sechelt Airport this weekend, May 17 and 18, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.

Two years ago the Sunshine Coast celebrated the 50th anniversary of the official opening of the Sechelt Airport.

A couple of weeks later, the local chapter of the Recreational Aircraft Association of Canada held its first annual Fly-Market on the Victoria Day weekend.

Staged to offer recreational aviators from the Coast, the Island and the Lower Mainland an opportunity to meet and swap aircraft “stuff” and tales, this first event was a nice little success, attracting a couple of dozen visiting aircraft, from single-engine home-builts to a twin Beech Expeditor. A year later, in 2013, a similar number of aircraft visited Sechelt, though the weather was decent on only one of the event’s two days.

RAA Chapter 580 is holding its annual Fly-Market at Sechelt Airport this weekend, May 17 and 18, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.

Lunch is available from noon to 2 p.m. on both days. Aircraft parking is available by the RAA clubhouse at the northwest end of the field. Auto parking is also available this year, and the general public is invited to attend. Invitations have gone out to representatives of local government, users of the airport and members of 858 Skookumchuck Squadron – Royal Canadian Air Cadets.

The past few months, the District of Sechelt has announced the development of plans to rehabilitate Sechelt Airport. Information about the plans will be available at the Fly-Market, offering people a good opportunity to see the airport as it now is along with the plans for its future. With all the visiting aircraft, the event will also give people a chance to see the airport at work.
