Earth Day planning underway

Roberts Creek

For the 26th year in a row, Roberts Creek is proud to celebrate Earth Day.

Earth Day is the world’s largest environmental event, bringing focus to climate change, sustainability and green initiatives. Started in 1970, today one billion people participate in 192 countries. In Canada alone, more than six million people honour Earth Day every year.

On Sunday, April 26, come to Roberts Creek Pier for the Earth Day Festival. It will be an afternoon of fun and sharing information focusing on environmental initiatives. To get there, enjoy transportation on the Sunshine Coast Regional District’s musical shuttle bus (from Davis Bay or Gibsons). Alternatively, ride your bike down and get a free tune up.

At the Pier, learn about the Coast Car Co-op and Share-There ride programs. Talk to the members of TRaC and find a way to reduce use of single occupancy vehicles. Take a trial ride on an electric bike.

The day kicks off with a special one-hour open Earth Day ceremony at the Roberts Creek Hall at 10 a.m. This will be a gathering in meditation, sound and prayer to awaken our interconnectedness and wonder of life.

From noon to 5 p.m. will be the main festival at the Pier. Live music from the great acts of Janet Panic, Bad to the Bow, Grant Olsen, Sweet Cascadia and Three Foot Kick featuring Matt Watson will fill the day. Great local food and green products will be for sale, with more than 40 vendors and organizations present. Key local environmental organizations will share their programs, and there will be many interactive displays and activities for children.
