Earth Day will be celebrated on Sunday, April 21, from noon to 5 p.m. at the Roberts Creek pier.

A great line-up of local talent will be showcased including: Keia Papa Kaua, The Knotty Dotters, Jacquie Allan, Randeesh, Ken Dalgleish, Bad to the Bow, Corduroy Road and more, with Pamela Messner as MC. Key environmental and community groups will be represented and local food, crafts and artwork will be available for sale.

The public is invited to join local permaculturist Delvin at 1 p.m. for a free tour of the Heart of the Creek Gardens. This is a great opportunity to learn about many food-medicine plants of the Coastal First Nations. At 2 p.m. organic farmers Katy Latham, Dawn Myers and Linda Fogarty offer a tour of the Gumboot Gardens followed by a workshop on continuous harvest through successive seeding. Katy and Dawn will offer a second workshop at 3:30 p.m. demonstrating how to close the nutrient loop using cover crops.

Drop in to the Roberts Creek Library anytime between 1 and 4 p.m. and enjoy the informative and highly entertaining Earth Day short films produced by Roberts Creek School and local home-school students. Recognizing the ecological value in reusing goods, the Toy Exchange invites children to trade well-loved yet little-worn books or toys. In the same spirit, the Roberts Creek Library will be holding a yard sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Ride your bike to Earth Day and receive a free spring bike tune-up, courtesy of TraC and Sunshine Coast Cycling. Or take a ride on the SCRD Musical Bus; local guitarist and vocalist Mark Lebell and friends are sure to put a smile on your face. Watch the paper for schedule.
