On June 24, the Canadian Home Builders Association (CHBA) – Sea to Sky chapter (S2S-CHBA) had its inaugural meeting on the Sunshine Coast to raise awareness and perform a membership drive. More than 60 Sunshine Coast builders as well as industry representatives met to organize and advocate on behalf of the construction and real estate community on the Sunshine Coast.
The real estate and construction industry on the Coast participates in well over a billion dollars per year of economic activity and is easily the largest employer on the Sunshine Coast yet there hasn’t been an effective voice advocating for reducing barriers and restrictions that continue to add to the increased costs of construction. The S2S-CHBA intends to meet regularly with local governments to discuss how they can streamline process as well as improve construction opportunities while lowering costs and barriers.
Seeking greater transparency and communication with local governments, the aim is to increase the number of building permits that are awarded on the Sunshine Coast to help alleviate the housing crisis that exists within our communities as well as deliver meaningful results to both large and small contractors from licensed builders to the supporting trades and retail community.
The association would like to thank the sponsors of the event that included Claytons Heritage Market, Brickers Cidery and 101 Brewhouse for their contributions. Special thanks to the Sunshine Coast Credit Union for supporting the catering for the event.
The S2S-CHBA is planning a golf tournament in September to once again, bring awareness to the membership benefits as well as to raise funds for both a new scholarship fund for trades and construction as well as challenge the Sunshine Coast Real Estate Association to be the highest contributor to the Sunshine Coast food banks.
