The Doyles – Kelly, Mike and their three-year-old daughter – moved off the Coast last October to a small community in Ontario, but they were surprised early in September by an unexpected visitor from home.

Being new to the community and in a rural area, the Doyles don’t get many visitors. That’s why it was a pretty big surprise when Butcher Dave from Sechelt showed up at their front door with a plate of Maui ribs.

“Out of nowhere he came to Ontario with our favourite ribs to deliver it to us in person,” Mike Doyle said. “If that’s not great customer service, I don’t know what is! It’s a reminder of what a great community we lived in.”

“Butcher” Dave Richardson was in the area visiting his own family. The Doyles didn’t live very far away and had been regular customers when they were living on the Sunshine Coast. Richardson decided to pay them a visit.

“I thought, I’ll take ’em back some Maui ribs,” Richardson said.

Richardson tracked down some friends of the Doyles, found out their new address and then showed up on their doorstep one day.

“I surprised her when I pulled up in her driveway,” Richardson said. “She looked out her window and I looked at her and she goes, ‘what’s my butcher doing here?’”

It turns out the Doyles’ friends had kept it a secret that Richardson would be stopping by.

The family was overjoyed to see Richardson – and their favourite ribs.

“Her daughter even remembered me, and her daughter is only three,” Richardson said.

Richardson visited with the family for a while. He said they have been in touch since he returned from his trip.
